Intelligent KVM solutions for Broadcast, Media & ITC

Loads of technology packed into small spaces

– one of the major aspects why ergonomics is an important factor for workplaces in the broadcast, media and ITC industry. KVM products are ideal for moving computers out of studios or OB vans, freeing up space and optimizing working conditions directly on site.

However, relocating systems does not mean sacrificing performance – all systems are still available centrally while maintaining high performance, for example for the demanding computers used in e-sports. KVM also guarantees technical security for live broadcasts and makes data easier available.

Remaining efficient and agile

Especially in Master Control Rooms, the working environment often needs to be organized well. Employees need to be able to work efficiently despite having to deal with many different systems, monitors, streams or keyboards. At the same time, they should also remain flexible in order to react quickly and spontaneously to events, for example during a live broadcast. G&D's innovative and ergonomic KVM systems are the perfect solution for this task.
They allow you to bundle computer technology and move it to protected areas. This gives producers a better overview of all processes and enables them to operate the remote technology in real time.

How KVM works in studios

A KVM matrix system lets you operate many computers via numerous simultaneous workplaces. High-performance access to the physically relocated computers is ensured, with no latency or loss of image quality. The remote workplaces are integrated into the operating concept via a dedicated CAT-X or fiber connection, allowing studio staff to access all computers. Decentralized accessibility of the computers is guaranteed, as is maintenance access for administrators directly in the server room via a separate, local console.

Reducing heat and noise emissions

Post-producers, sound engineers and supervisors all work with powerful computers. Since these generate a lot of noise and heat, they shouldn’t be placed in a working environment where people need to be extremely focused on their demanding tasks. The solution: KVM systems from G&D. Relocating computers does not only avoid noise emissions, it also has a positive effect on workplace ergonomics. Noise and heat are a thing of the past, and employees can concentrate on what really matters: performing their complex tasks – with full access to their computers and without having to deal with any delays.

Seamless interaction of heterogeneous systems

And as a special advantage for post-production, the integrated IP-Control-API interface lets you optimally integrate G&D's matrix switches into broadcast control and monitoring systems. This simplifies multi-stage, complex processes in the studio and simply feels right.

KVM used in Post-Production

In this application, the computers were relocated into a separate technical room. Thanks to KVM extenders, remote users in the post-production area can work on their computers without any latency, as if the computers were still at the console. The KVM extender system consists of a computer module and a console module. The multi-channel variant is also able to connect multi-video computers to implement multi-monitor workplaces. All connected systems are managed simultaneously from the central computer room via a KVM switch.

Creating space and keeping control

Controlling live broadcasts in a confined space, while handling video and audio, and managing slow motion and production simultaneously can be quite a challenge. All processes in the OB van require not only maximum concentration, but also powerful technology and high-performance computers.

However, these generate much heat and noise – something you don’t want, especially when working in small spaces. Using KVM to detach the systems from the workplaces improves ergonomics and working conditions. Nevertheless, the computers remain accessible at all times. This creates free space you can use for other technical equipment, for example.

KVM in OB Vans

To achieve efficient room layout in just a few square meters, all workplaces in the production, slo-mo, audio and video areas access a pool of computers installed in server racks at the rear of the truck. There, all computers are connected to a KVM matrix system. This saves valuable space and optimizes the working conditions of the employees in terms of space, noise and heat emissions. The KVM matrix allows access to the entire pool of computers from all workplaces. Thus, employees remain flexible in their work without having to constantly change places in a confined space.
Multi-monitor workplaces are operated with only one set consisting of keyboard and mouse and reduce the number of peripheral devices. Technicians can switch to different computers via on-screen display, keystroke or the intuitive CrossDisplay-Switching.

Performance and high quality – guaranteed

In online matches, every millisecond counts – even a slight delay can have a decisive impact on victory or defeat. To enable real-time transmissions without any loss of performance, high-powered computers are used in e-sports. However, since this equipment produces lots of heat and noise emissions, it makes sense to use KVM to relocate the computers. As a result, the professional gaming environment is quieter, doesn't overheat, and most importantly, doesn't distract e-sports players from their match.

High frame rates for a perfect gaming experience

On top of that, G&D devices support frame rates of up to 240 Hz/s – the best prerequisite for smooth high-performance gaming. With the new VisionXS product generation, G&D offers frame rate conversion in order to integrate computers into KVM systems that do not support high refresh rates. Thus, e-sports benefits in many ways from G&D's KVM solutions, which ensure that professional gaming simply feels right.

Video expertise at G&D

Have you ever wondered if KVM systems from G&D can handle refresh rates up to 240 Hz? Andreas Gerlach will answer this question and provides you with detailed information about our compressed and uncompressed KVM systems for pixel perfect video transmission.

Easy monitoring and central organization

The Internet and the networks of cell phones, telephones and the like have no operating hours – they simply must work reliably and trouble-free at all times and in all places. As central points of network monitoring and maintenance, Internet and telecommunications providers and Network Operation Centers (NOC) are responsible for this task. Streaming services also use NOCs for comprehensive monitoring. Here, employees always have an overview of all networks and IT components and ensure their operation.
In this process, KVM provides significant support for monitoring all relevant processes and systems. Employees are able to access all computer systems – even in extensive networks. You see, it’s easy to rely on G&D's solutions when it comes to monitoring technology that is always on.
