The DirectRedundancyShield (DRS) is a feature for KVM-over-IP matrix systems that protects the installation with a second, redundant central module. If the active central module fails or becomes unreachable, the previously passive system takes over immediately.

Once configured, all console modules and computer modules maintain permanent encrypted connections to both central modules, using a single transmission line. Because the connection to the passive system already exists, it does not have to be established when a fault occurs.
If the active central module becomes unavailable, the previously passive connection takes over automatically and without delay. Switch states are retained. Users notice the event only as a brief on-screen message at the edge of the display; image transmission continues without interruption, and even DP1.2 monitors show no blanking.
Both features protect operation against faults, but in different ways. The DirectRedundancyShield maintains permanent connections to both central modules and switches over without interrupting the image transmission. The MatrixGuard function reconnects console and computer modules to a different matrix switch when a fault occurs and restores the switch states. The two features cannot be combined.
